What is the purpose of this site?
This site wants to give information about the disease Retinitis Pigmentosa in general and the treatment for it as it is offered in Cuba in specific. It is directed to patients suffering RP or to people who have relatives or friends that do so.
The information in this site is gathered from medical sources in Cuba and from all over the world. It is on purpose not written by authors from the medical world as to guarantee that the language would be clear and understandable to ordinary people. Nevertheless the full text of this site has been checked on its accuracy and approved by qualified medical personnel.

Who are we?
This site explains, promotes and comercializes the treatment against Retinitis Pigmentosa as it is offered in the Camilo Cienfuegos Hospital in Havana, Cuba. This is done in complete agreement with the Hospital.

Mr Antonio Barciela, Doctor in Science, and Mrs Ileana Reyes, Doctor in Medicine, are handling the email comunications behind this site. They give replies to any questions visitors of this site may have. And they handle the requests to the hospital by patients (or by anyone who speaks in their name). Tony and Ileana live in Havana and work for Servimed, the agency authorized to promote and sell Cuban medical services to non-Cubans.

Erkamed is the partner of Servimed for Western Europe. This agency comercializes the Cuban medical services in general, and the RP treatment in specific, in Western Europe.

We don't use any tricks to find out who visits this website.
If someone has questions about the content of this site he or she can send an email to our medical consultants, Tony Barciela and Ileana Reyes. They will gladly reply and help you out. We don't gather your email addresses for any further use, not for ourselves, not for third parties.
If a RP patient wants to apply for the treatment in the Camilo Cienfuegos Center, Tony or Ileana will request over email to send private medical information of the patient. They will evaluate this information and pass it on to the Clinic if they consider the patient has a good chance to be accepted for treatment. The medical board of the Clinic will evaluate the information and accept or deny the patient. Outside of the medical board of the clinic and our medical consultants (Tony and Ileana) nobody will see this information. The board nor Tony or Ileana will ever reveal this private information to third parties.
Once the patient is in the hospital the doctors will perform a number of tests to assess the patients medical state. It is solely this assesment that is used as information during the treatment.
Before, during or after the treatment there is no comunication about the patient then with the patient him/herself, unless the patient indicates a person of his/her trust.

The makers of this site can not be held responsible for the work done by the medical staff of the Camilo Cienfuegos Hospital. The only ones responsible for this are the medical staff themselves and the Hospital as such.
The makers of this site are aware that the treatment against RP in Cuba is put in doubt and even disapproved by some medical circles outside of Cuba. This is a battle between specialists and falls outside of the scope of this website. We simply and truthfully claim that this treatment is accepted and approved on medical grounds in Cuba. As human beings are considered equal and alike this treatment should apply to the rest of the world as well. This website opens up the treatment to RP patients outside of Cuba.
